I’ve decided to call it a day. I tried, and I couldn’t make it happen. I reached out to train companies, unions, hospitals, influencers, journalists… and the message just kept getting lost along the way.
Hospitals didn’t pass it on. My union wouldn’t support it because “it’s not just for nurses.” Influencers had other things to share, interviews were either never published (thank you, Owen Scott, The Sun) or quietly ignored (Sophie Nicholson, that’s tv). And here’s the strangest part — even many Facebook groups, including night shift worker groups (the very people who would benefit from a 24-hour ticket), refused to publish my posts. That one still surprises me.
I honestly believed this campaign had a chance. It’s a simple, fair change. If you finish work after a night shift, you shouldn’t have to pay twice for the same journey home. But no matter how much I pushed, the message didn’t spread far enough.
I also want to say a special thank you to Will Foster, Woking MP, the only MP who actually replied and offered his time and support for both campaigns. That meant a lolot.
I tried, and I fell short. I’m sorry. I wanted to help myself and every single one of you who works nights, commutes long distances, and deserves better. Good luck to the next person who picks this up — I’ll be the first to sign and share when it happens.
Until then.
