Make Tipping in Restaurants, Salons and Spas Optional, Not Mandatory

The Issue

As someone deeply affected by the escalating tipping culture, I am compelled to raise this issue. The practice of guilt tipping, fatigue tipping, and even more concerning - demanded tipping is becoming preposterous. This culture digs an additional 50% hole in customers' pockets despite already paying exorbitant prices for services.

Whenever I'm at a restaurant to pick up own food, the screen shows  15 20 22 percent tip to be made. What's the point of self-service. I'm driving, picking up, driving back home, serving myself, and cleaning dishes myself. I think the restaurant should tip me to be a loyal and self-serving customer. Same for salons and spas, a tip screen for an already expensive service. This is not personal anymore. The companies need to be responsible for their employees and we need to responsible for being good and loyal customers.

Restaurants, salons and spas make considerable profits. They should be grateful for having customers who choose their services amidst a sea of options available. However, the current expectation of mandatory tips has turned what should be a token of gratitude into an obligation.

Tipping needs to become optional again - a privilege earned through exceptional service rather than a right demanded regardless of performance or customer satisfaction. According to Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration study on Tipping Practices in America (2016), 27% of consumers feel obligated to tip even when they have received subpar service.

We need your support to bring about this change in policy that will restore fairness and choice back into the hands of consumers while still rewarding those who truly excel at their jobs with deserved gratuity. Let's work together to transform tipping from an expected duty back into an earned reward for excellent service.
