Make the School Bus Stop Safer for Elementary & Middle School Students in Henderson
Make the School Bus Stop Safer for Elementary & Middle School Students in Henderson
The Issue

Children in our Henderson community are currently required to walk approximately 20 minutes along Nevada State Drive near the Wagon Wheel freeway exit to reach their assigned school bus stop near Conestoga Way. This route raises serious safety concerns for young students traveling to and from Walker Elementary School and Mannion Middle School. Children must walk near high-speed traffic exiting the freeway and cross a busy intersection located near a gas station and bar. There is no crossing guard or adult supervision to assist them during school commute hours. Many of the students walking this route are elementary-aged. In addition to the traffic hazards, students must walk this distance during extreme desert heat for much of the school year. Parents in the neighborhood have already contacted the Clark County School District Transportation Department. A review was conducted under case number PC#57054, but we were informed that the stop meets district criteria and that no changes would be made. We respectfully ask Clark County School District to conduct a secondary safety review and consider relocating or adding a safer bus stop within the neighborhood where children can board safely. Our goal is simple: ensure that children in our community can travel to school safely. Please sign and share to help protect the safety of local students. Signed, Concerned Parents and Residents of Henderson
