Make the route from Trowse to Norwich safe for walkers and cyclists
The Issue
Petition: Make the Route from Trowse to Norwich Safe for Walkers and Cyclists Now!
Lots of people in Trowse want to walk or cycle into Norwich instead of driving. National Cycle Route 1 runs right through our village, but it has a dangerous missing link for anyone on foot or on two wheels.
Right where Bracondale meets King Street and goes down to the Carrow Road bridge, the safe route completely vanishes. Suddenly, children, parents, and prams are forced right onto a scary, busy road packed with heavy traffic. It is a terrible bottleneck that makes active travel feel dangerous.
The big new Carrow Works master plan promises a nice green route in the future. But Phase 1 of the project—which is in public consultation right now—does not include this safe route. The safe path won't be ready until the entire site is completely finished, which could take a very long time.
In the meantime, local families and the very first new neighbours moving into Phase 1 will have no safe way to walk, scoot, or cycle to schools, jobs, and shops in the city. There is also no safe cycle route for Norwich folk to come and visit the wonderful people and business of Trowse and the beautiful countryside beyond.
What We Want the Council to Do:
- Fix the road now: Upgrade this small section of road for pedestrians and cyclists from Bracondale down to the Carrow Road bridge. This way we can walk and cycle into town safely with our new neighbours from Phase 1 before the whole master plan is complete.
- Prioritise a safe route through the site: Ensure a safe cycle and pedestrian route is built through the new development and made usable as soon as possible within the very early phasing of the works.
Please sign our petition to protect young walkers and cyclists, cut down on cars, and connect Trowse to Norwich safely!
