Make the Diamond Creek Town Fair Safe for Pets & Wildlife
Make the Diamond Creek Town Fair Safe for Pets & Wildlife
The issue
To the Nillumbik Shire Council and the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek:
The Diamond Creek Rotary Town Fair is a beautiful local tradition that brings our community together. However, every year, the grand finale fireworks display leaves a trail of fear and anxiety across our neighborhood. It’s time to update this tradition so everyone in Diamond Creek can celebrate safely.
The traditional, high-decibel fireworks used at Coventry Oval reach up to 150 decibels. For our pets, horses, and local wildlife, it sounds like a war zone.
Why we are asking for a change:
Terrified Pets: Every year, local dog owners face extreme distress as their pets tremble, panic, and try to escape. Lost dog networks and shelters always see a spike in missing pets on the night of the fair, with terrified animals bolting onto busy roads like Main Road.
Danger to Horses: Diamond Creek is a proud semi-rural community. The unpredictable explosions cause horses on nearby properties to bolt in terror, risking severe injuries through fences.
Native Wildlife Disruption: As a proud part of Nillumbik’s Green Wedge, our area is home to kangaroos, wombats, and native birds. The concussive noise forces birds to abandon their nests and drives wildlife onto roads.
Waterway Pollution: Chemical residue and plastic debris from the display threaten the health of the adjacent Diamond Creek river system and its aquatic life.
The Solution: Evolution, Not Cancellation!
We love the fair, and we love a grand finale! We aren’t asking to cancel the fun—we are asking to modernise it.
We call on the Nillumbik Shire Council and the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek to transition away from high-noise fireworks and instead adopt:
Low-Noise ("Silent") Fireworks: Beautiful visual displays without the terrifying, concussive "booms."
Laser or Drone Light Shows: High-tech, spectacular, and completely safe alternatives that protect our animals and keep our environment clean.
Let's make the Diamond Creek Town Fair an inclusive event that respects our unique environment and protects our beloved animals.
Please sign and share to protect Diamond Creek’s pets and wildlife!
