PETITION: Make the 2025 Oscars a Wildfire Relief Telethon to Rebuild Los Angeles

We, the undersigned, call on the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) to transform the 2025 Oscars Ceremony into a live telethon, dedicated to the rebuilding and protection of Los Angeles after the devastating wildfires that have damaged over 17,000 structures and burned 60 square miles.  

Why This Matters

Academy members know better than anyone that great films are made by robust, innovative, and cohesive communities. In the wake of this indescribable loss, the world’s Creativity Capital has a chance to band together to rebuild the stronger, safer, and resilient systems that Southern Californians deserve. By harnessing the global, entertainment-industry-wide influence of the Academy, and the stories of those in and out of the industry affected by the fires, Los Angeles, as a community, can return to providing its greatest export to the world: Inspiration.

Our Requests to the Academy  

1. Host the 2025 Oscars as a Telethon  

   Dedicate the broadcast to raising funds for greater Los Angeles wildfire relief alongside the awards ceremony. 

2. Partner with a Proven Third-Party Administrator  

   Collaborate with a respected, well-positioned organization to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficient distribution of all donations. (Examples are the American Red Cross and the California Community Fund) 

3. Allocate Funds to Four Key Areas for the Greater Good 

   - Repair Critical Infrastructure: Reinforce power lines, water systems, roads, and public transportation for safer, more sustainable living conditions.  

   - Redevelopment Preparedness: Conduct large-scale cleanups of toxic and hazardous materials to protect health and enable responsible rebuilding.  

   - Restoration & Reforestation: Rejuvenate damaged landscapes by restoring ecosystems, planting trees, and creating fire-resilient green spaces.  

   - Rebuilding & Disaster Preparedness: Strengthen emergency services, warning systems, and community readiness to safeguard lives and livelihoods.
