Make Texas a No-Kill State and Implement Low-Cost and Free Spay/Neuter Programs
The Issue
As a passionate animal rescuer, I have borne witness to the harsh realities of our current shelter system. I have seen too many dogs, purebred and mutts alike, taken off the streets or saved from death row only to learn their fate has not changed. Dogs that have been tagged for transport, seniors abandoned by their owners, and young puppies who have not even had a chance to live, all euthanized.
These heartbreaking stories demonstrate the urgent necessity for reforming our animal welfare policies. It is time to stop euthanization in Texas, and work towards making it a no-kill state. States such as Michigan and Delaware have successfully enforced no-kill policies, significantly reducing the number of healthy animals euthanized annually (Source: Best Friends Animal Society).
Additionally, backyard breeding needs to be stopped. Instead, let's promote responsible pet ownership by enacting low-cost spay and neuter programs. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) estimates that millions of dogs and cats are euthanized in the U.S. every year due to a surplus of pets caused by unplanned litters.
Let's not allow the innocent lives of these pets go in vain. Join us in urging the Texas lawmakers to ameliorate animal welfare policies. With your signature, we can put an end to needless euthanization and implement alternatives that are humane, effective, and strengthen the bond between pets and their owners. Sign this petition today - together, we can make a difference.
