The Issue

If you already know what monero is it’s a waste of time to read this because it’s heavily aimed at people who do not know what Monero is, just sign it. I deeply believe privacy is one of the most important virtues in our world, and the ability to maintain it should extend to our online transactions as well. Steam is the leading platform for PC gamers (including myself) offering the largest catalog of games in the whole world. Despite its influence and progressive features, Steam has no current cryptocurrency options, in the past steam had Bitcoin (BTC) as an option but took it off due to the extremely high fees. Monero (XMR) is a decentralized cryptocurrency that provides the most amount of anonymity and privacy for its users. Unlike many other cryptocurrencies, Monero uses advanced cryptographic techniques to hide transactions and users identities, allowing them to make online purchases without fear of surveillance or data tracking. This is increasingly important as data breaches and privacy violations become more and more common. Allowing Monero to be used as a payment option for Steam would not just expand transaction choices for all of Steam but would also show support for a safer, more secure and private world. Many platforms and retailers have begun to recognize the advantages of accepting Monero, particularly those focused on privacy. One example is Overstock which is a major online retailer, they started accepting Monero in 2017. Being able to use Monero on Steam would show that steam greatly Values customer privacy. Enabling Monero payments would attract a new group of users who deeply care about their privacy, which would increase user engagement and sales on the platform. As time goes on Monero is becoming more popular due to its strong focus on privacy and low network fees, and its community is growing quickly. Thus, its integration with a major platform like Steam would be a great victory for privacy and the Monero community. I believe that XMR is the best choice for Steam to implement for many reasons, Below I have some information that I couldn’t fit into a specific section. 1. Dynamic block size prevents congestion which leads to lower fee prices. 2. Monero updates in a consistent and predictable way focusing on improving privacy, security and the overall network. 3. Monero has many other features to prevent the fee problem Bitcoin is dealing with. 4. Monero’s fees are 99.8% lower than Bitcoin. The highest typical Monero fee is only $0.0025 USD. It’s time for Steam to lead by example in the gaming industry by embracing Monero. Doing so would show to gamers and the tech community alike that privacy matters. Please sign this petition to help convince Steam to adopt Monero (XMR) as a valid payment method.
