Make Spaying and Neutering Mandatory for Dogs and Cats in South Carolina

The Issue

A lifetime devoted to animal rescue has taught me that animals are among the greatest blessings bestowed upon humans. Their protection and care is our responsibility. A key part of this care should be mandatory spaying and neutering for all cats and dogs, with the exception of registered breeders.

In South Carolina, our local shelters are struggling with increasing overpopulation. Euthanasia rates are alarmingly high, even as countless strays roam our streets. We alone have the power to change this sad narrative. As someone who wholeheartedly believes in the sanctity of animal lives, I urge you to support this cause.

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), around 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. Among these, approximately 1.5 million are euthanized. These heart-wrenching statistics could be significantly reduced if spaying and neutering were made mandatory.

Therefore, I urge the South Carolina legislature to implement a law making spaying and neutering compulsory for dogs and cats, with an exception only for certified breeders. Let's work together towards a future where every dog and cat can live a life free from the risk of being unwanted or discarded. Please sign this petition and help us make a difference for our four-legged friends.
