The Issue

I recently endured a terrifying experience online when I was threatened with rape and violence, simply because I spoke out on social media. Despite reporting this despicable behavior, the platform took no action, leaving me feeling vulnerable and fearful. Unfortunately, I am only one of many women who have faced similar threats. Social media has become a breeding ground for such harassment, where perpetrators hide behind the anonymity of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and fake profiles to engage in malicious behavior without consequence.

The unchecked use of VPNs allows these individuals to evade detection, making it almost impossible for law enforcement and social media platforms to track them down. Furthermore, without mandatory ID verification, users can easily create multiple accounts to continue their harassment, even after being reported.

In light of these issues, I urge all social media platforms to take a firm stance against online harassment by blocking VPN usage and implementing mandatory ID checks for all users wishing to post content. These measures will not only deter bad actors but also help create safer online spaces for everyone. Let's hold these platforms accountable for the safety of their users and ensure they act decisively against online threats and violence.

We live in a digital age where communication and interaction frequently occur online. Therefore, the protection of users, especially vulnerable groups such as women, should be a top priority. By demanding these changes, we can take a significant step toward reducing online abuse and empowering individuals to engage freely and securely on social media.

Please support this vital cause by signing the petition, and let’s work together to make the internet a safer place for all.
