The Issue

"Gigantic" is a cancelled animated musical Disney movie that was first announced back in 2015. It was originally scheduled for release in 2018 and was supposed to be a reimagining of the fairytale "Jack and the Beanstalk." The movie went through several delays before getting officially cancelled in 2017 due to "creative differences and story issues."

I recently learned about Disney's animated movie “Gigantic” and was also very sad and disappointed that it got cancelled. Like many fans, I eagerly anticipated this unique take on the fairytale "Jack and the Beanstalk" set to be a magical exploration of friendship with stunning visuals that only Disney could deliver.

However, there is some exciting news that I recently heard about: This movie studio called Skydance, who are part of Paramount Pictures and created several animated projects so far like the Netflix movie "Spellbound" (2024), have a new untitled Jack and the Beanstalk inspired movie in development. What's even more surprising is that the team at Skydance has a couple of people who used to work with Disney and were actually involved with "Gigantic" such as: John Lasseter (formerly part of Pixar and was the director of Toy Story plus a few others) who is now the head of Skydance Animation, Rich Moore (Zootopia, Wreck-It Ralph) who is the new movie director and Nathan Greno (Tangled, Tangled Ever After), who was originally supposed to be the director of the cancelled project. Since it's still in early development, not much has been revealed so far except that it will be released not in theaters but on Netflix just like "Spellbound." This could be our chance to finally see Disney's “Gigantic” brought back to life!! Many fans out there wanted the cancelled project revived for a long time!!

While we're very excited about Skydance's upcoming movie, there's just one problem though: It might not even be a revival of Disney's "Gigantic." I heard there are two possible reasons for this:

1.) There's a chance that the team will want to create something new, different, and separate from "Gigantic."

2.) Disney might be holding the rights to the cancelled project. (It might be mostly the first reason, but I'm not totally sure.)

This is a missed opportunity to satisfy thousands of hopeful fans. We believe that by incorporating elements from “Gigantic,” Skydance can create a cinematic masterpiece, honoring Disney's initial vision while crafting something fresh and captivating.

Disney's vision included creating a touching story about Jack befriending a female giant named Inma. The narrative promised depth and heart, elements that resonated with audiences worldwide as early concept art and storyline teasers were released. Many fans have expressed their disappointment online and in forums, longing for another chance to experience this heartwarming adventure. If Disney truly holds the rights to the cancelled project and aren't interested in reviving it, then I really think they should give the rights to Skydance and let them take over it, so that we can finally get the movie that many fans wanted for a really long time!!

By signing this petition, we're fighting for two things: Either for Disney to consider licensing the rights of “Gigantic” to Skydance or to persuade them to use any elements from the cancelled project in their new animated movie or maybe even both issues possibly. Empowering Skydance Animation to blend their creative talents with Disney's original ideas could bring magic to screens, satisfying the wishes of those who have awaited "Gigantic." It's now been over a decade since the movie was first announced and almost a decade since it was cancelled! I really think it's about time that it got the revival that it truly deserves!! Let's join forces and advocate for a collaboration that could breathe new life into this beloved concept. Sign this petition and be a part of making this dream a reality!!
