I'm writing this petition because I'm a secondary school student who just wants to enjoy a decent school lunch without breaking the bank. Every day, when lunchtime rolls around, I find myself faced with some ridiculous prices at my school canteen. For example, one cookie here costs about double what the exact same cookie costs at Lidl. And let's not even get started on the waffle—they nearly charge £2 for it! These prices are unfair and unrealistic for students like me who simply want to enjoy their meals at school.

I know you might think, "Why don't you just bring food from home?" Well, it's not always feasible for everyone. Plus, school lunch should be a time where we can choose something fresh and convenient right there at school without worrying about cost. For many, school meals might be the only proper meal we get until we head home, which makes it all the more important to have affordable options.

There's a strong case for making school lunches cheaper. First, we need to ensure that every student has access to nutritious, affordable meals. According to a recent study conducted by The Food Foundation, nearly one in five children in the UK live in households that struggle to buy food. In a nation where such staggering statistics exist, it's essential that our schools step up to this challenge by providing affordable food options.

Here’s a practical solution: schools should negotiate better deals with local vendors or introduce subsidies for school meal programs. By doing so, they can lower the cost of school meals without compromising on quality. This will ensure that all students, regardless of their financial background, can enjoy lunch at school without stress.

Perhaps you think why should it matter to you? Because it affects all of us—the students of today are the leaders of tomorrow. Ensuring we have access to affordable meals might seem like a small thing, but it goes a long way in improving concentration, academic performance, and overall well-being.

Please, let's make this change together. If you believe that all students deserve the right to an affordable school meal, I urge you to sign this petition. By adding your signature, you're standing up for fairness, equality, and a brighter future for us all. Thank you for your support.
