Hello! Thank you again for signing this petition – and here’s a quick update on our progress and next steps.
First of all–there are close to 3000 who have signed this and agree! That is very exciting. I started this petition not knowing if others felt the same way beyond a few folks, and it is very encouraging to hear back that the answer is YES!
One of the consistent things I heard back in comments from signers: “It’s time to move on.”
Whether folks have liked the Blue Angels in the past or not – people want something else.
After this initial response, a few of us got together for some further discussion, info gathering and reflection. We want this ask to be about calling for a reimagined Seafair – one that uplifts Seattle’s communities in ways that celebrate traditions and look to a sustainable, inclusive future. And we connected with others also working for the same goals with some local groups--they were already doing great research and planning and we wanted to align our efforts!
We’re more determined than ever to get rid of fighter jets flying over Seattle - especially with what’s happening with violence in the world right now - but always.
We also want to present a positive vision of what we can move towards.
We are pushing forward to ask our city and Seafair leaders to reimagine Seafair as a fossil free event that is committed to doing no harm to humans, animals and the environment and meeting the City of Seattle and King County’s sustainability goals and focused on community health and well-being.
We would like it to keep growing this petition to show the number of people who support these ideas as we continue to meet with key decision-makers including with the city and Seafair.
Specifically we are asking YOU for 3 things - hope you can help!
- Share with 10-20 people so we can get more signatures of folks who agree with these – we want to get to 7500 signatures–our goal before Seafair starts again this summer late July. Last year our signature numbers doubled every day for days! Let’s keep going!
- Help us gather information about the impacts that Seafair has on south Seattle residents, wildlife, and our environment. If you’d like to help, please comment on the petition and we will contact you.
- Stay tuned and keep checking, and if you have time and skills to offer, Contact: vtdairyqueen@yahoo.com. This is a growing team - and you can join in!
After gathering more signatures we’re going to decide when to deliver the message from our collective voices sharing concerns and a desire for a reimagined Seafair.
