Make Scotties name permanent and restore jewelry for Canadian Women's Curling Championship

Make Scotties name permanent and restore jewelry for Canadian Women's Curling Championship
The Issue
We have some unique traditions in our sport that have long been branded as 'curling' and 'Canadian'.
For 44 years now, the Scotties brand (formerly Scott) has been part of Canadian Women's Curling to the degree that the championship that celebrates the best curlers in our country is known colloquially as 'The Scotties'.
It's a unique marketing advantage that curling has in that our major championships, the Scotties and the Brier, have their own strange names that are not at all related to curling or more standard sports championship brands.
The marketing advantage Curling Canada maintains with these brands is vitally important to maintaining its status as a major championship.
The term 'Brier' has no origin in curling and instead was a product sold by MacDonald Tobacco, the original sponsor of the Canadian Men's Championship.
At some point, the definition evolved to the degree where the Brier is the title every men's curler in Canada is chasing, while at the same time, Canadian women's teams chase the Scotties title.
Kruger Products has dropped its sponsorship of the women's provincial and territorial championships, and it's going to be challenging for fans to figure out it's the same event as always.
Another casualty of this change in sponsorship at the provincial level is the end of the iconic "Scotties Jewelry" that players receive each year.
On a player's first appearance, they receive the Scotties necklace, and then, for each appearance afterward, a stone is added.
The end of this has left many Canadian women's curlers heartbroken over the potential end of this iconic tradition.
I ask you to support my petition to urge the following things to happen:
- Curling Canada adopts a similar stance on the Scotties name brand as the Brier name brand for the Canadian Women's Curling Championship, with no change necessary at this point due to existing sponsorship relationships.
- We challenge Curling Canada and the member associations to continue the Scotties Jewelry tradition for the participants, where the necklace and stones continue.
- All Provincial and Territorial Championships are to be referred to as 'Sponsor Name' and 'Province' Scotties in perpetuity to honour the name brand.
- Kruger Products Inc. should be honoured for the support of curling and women's sports, and they allow the use of the Scotties brand name by Curling Canada and the Member Associations as the permanent name of the Canadian Women's Curling Championship and its qualifying events.
