I am a proud Salt Lake City resident, deeply impassioned by the vibrant urban environment we are creating. Our potential for increased walkability, advanced transit systems, and care for the homeless is immense and unparalleled in Utah. We are dedicated to progress and equality in ways that resonate positively through our communities. However, over the years, our aspirations and much-deserved autonomy have been stifled. It is time we reclaim our city's rights.

The State of Utah has overstepped and exploited its authority on numerous occasions. The imposition of the Inland Port and the unjust dissection of Salt Lake County into four districts are grave examples of their overreach. They have infamously threatened to strip us of our funding unless we abide by their policing rules. Recently, a moratorium has been put in place, restricting us from designing our own streets to force through a Gondala which we made abundantly clear we didn’t want

If rural counties from Illinois and Oregon are not afraid to go this far then why shouldn’t we. We deserve to be listened to just as much as they are. We have been mistreated and left out of the conversation.

We implore the Utah Legislature to stop dictating our path and to respect our journey toward becoming a prosperous urban environment. This petition urges all like-minded individuals to step forward and support Salt Lake City's chase for independence. We cannot allow our city to maintain the status quo any longer.
