Dear Supporters
Despite the correspondence I received in April this year, acknowledging this petition and advising that the New South Wales Government was continuing to consider feedback about rodeos and the "currency" of the Code of Practice for Animals Used in Rodeo events, NOTHING has happened. We still don't even know how many animals are being harmed or killed in these events, because the operators can keep that information hidden.
Once people are made aware of the cruelty involved in every rodeo event, they are much more likely to demand changes - or a ban on this so-called sport, so public reporting on the harm done to animals forced to participate in rodeos is an important step in building public awareness and concern.
A new study co-authored by RSPCA Australia has proved yet again how calves used in rodeos show clear signs of fear and stress. Read the details here: https://www.rspca.org.au/latest-news/media-centre/rodeo-calves-exhibit-red-flag-fear-and-stress-behaviours/
And the psychological stress is accompanied by the ever-present danger of serious injury and death.
You can help get the message out and put pressure on the NSW Government to improve animal welfare in rodeos by sharing this petition. You can also contact the Minister directly:
tara.moriarty@parliament.nsw.gov.au
or the NSW Premier:
https://www.nsw.gov.au/nsw-government/premier-of-nsw/contact-premier
and tell them that rodeo operators must:
- publicly reveal deaths and injuries;
- ensure a vet is present at all events;
- stop the use of electric prods
- end calf roping
at the very least.
Thanks to all who have signed and shared this petition, and to Animal Liberation NSW for providing photos, including the one above, which highlight the horror of rodeos.
You can help end the horror. Please speak up for the animals. Thank you.
