Dear Supporters

The NSW Government has introduced into Parliament proposed changes to animal welfare laws.  These  changes are meant to represent a major overhaul of the principal law protecting animals in this state from cruel treatment, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979.

However, instead of bringing this outdated Act into the 21st century, the Government is proposing a mish-mash of welcome but relatively minor changes which do not address fundamental flaws in the law as it stands.

For example, the activities undertaken in rodeos, such as releasing an animal then chasing it down, are prohibited in the Act, but rodeo operators are given an exemption from  prosecution.  There is no change to this outrage in the amendments put forward by the Government, so the free pass to inflict cruelty on rodeo animals continues.  

It is vitally important that the politicians get the message that people are fed up with animal mistreatment and want real improvements.

Animal Liberation , who have kindly provided all the photos for this petition, have put together an easy way for you to give feedback to the Government about the failures of the proposed amendments.  I urge you to take this opportunity to speak up for all animals now, before these changes are debated in the NSW Parliament.
