Make Racism Illegal

Make Racism Illegal
The Issue
Growing up as an American citizen of Mexican descent, I've encountered countless instances of racism. From insensitive remarks to outright discrimination, I have been the target of unfounded prejudices solely based on my heritage. Such experiences are not unique to me; they are a harsh reality for many people of color across the United States. It is painful and disheartening to have one's identity subjected to mockery and hate simply because of the color of their skin or their ethnic background.
Racism manifests itself in numerous detrimental ways, impacting lives, communities, and society at large. According to a 2021 study by the Pew Research Center, 76% of Asian Americans, 71% of Black Americans, and 53% of Hispanic Americans have reported facing racial or ethnic discrimination. This pervasive issue goes beyond personal anecdotes—it stands as a grave social injustice that demands our collective action.
Currently, there are provisions within U.S. law that prohibit certain discriminatory practices. However, these measures fall short in comprehensively addressing the depth and pervasiveness of racism. We need stronger legislation that unequivocally denounces racism in all its forms, making it unmistakably illegal and unacceptable. Such legal frameworks can act as powerful deterrents, ensuring that individuals and institutions face real consequences for their racist actions.
I am calling upon our lawmakers and government officials to take a stand and introduce comprehensive anti-racism legislation. This would not only safeguard the rights and dignity of individuals like myself but also create a more harmonious and equitable society for future generations.
We can no longer afford to stand idly by while racism continues to harm our nation and its citizens. It's time for a change—time to make racism illegal once and for all. Stand with us in this fight for justice and equality by signing this petition. Your support is crucial in rallying for a future where everyone is judged by their character and actions, not their race or ethnicity.
