Make QPR take responsibility for the environment and for the wellbeing of local residents
Make QPR take responsibility for the environment and for the wellbeing of local residents
The Issue
It's match day at QPR and typically it causes havoc on local roads and massive pollution from cars because no warning is given to drivers or local residents about the fixture.
The whole of Wood Lane becomes a solid traffic jam with idling cars pumping out fumes. Drivers don't realise, until it is too late, that they are heading into a huge jam and then they are forced to take a long route around Shepherds Bush causing more pollution. There is no parking for residents as supporters grab all the spaces. So, beware if you move your car on match days, don't come home expecting to find a space.
Shops and local residents - especially the disabled and vulnerable and also pedestrians may find the crowds a problem. Given the choice some residents might choose to stay at home on match days.
THIS IS NOT A PETITION TO STOP ANYONE HAVING FUN, OR TO STOP QPR RAKING IT IN ON MATCHDAYS. It is simply asking our local club to be responsible to the environment and local residents.
QPR should do the following immediately:
- Set up a text alert system for local residents with information that it is a match day and what time they will be closing South Africa Rd.
- Make an effort to contact local residents so that they can sign up for text alerts for match days
- Put signs at the top of Wood Lane, on the A40 exit at White City and on Shepherds Bush Roundabout. These can be lit up on match days warning motorists to avoid the area or take another route, for example to get off the A40 at Bloemfontein Rd rather than at White City. These signs are already commonly used on major roads to give warnings.
Come on you R's - just do the right thing. Support your local community and the environment.
