Make Public Transport Pet Friendly in Ireland

The Issue

In Ireland, public transportation options for pet owners are severely limited. Dublin Bus has no official policy regarding pets and leaves the decision up to individual drivers. The LUAS allows pets in a carrier but again, at the discretion of the LUAS staff. Currently, only the DART and Irish Rail offer some form of pet accommodation, but these options are not accessible to all residents.

This lack of inclusive policies means individuals without personal vehicles needing to transport their pets for essential services such as veterinary care or otherwise struggle to access these services.

In contrast, almost all other European countries have inclusive policies towards pets on public transportation systems. These countries recognise the importance of ensuring that all members of society - including our furry friends - can access public spaces and services.

We believe it's time for Ireland to follow suit by implementing pet-friendly policies across all forms of public transport. This change will not only benefit current pet owners but also encourage responsible pet ownership among those considering adding a new member to their family.

Let us work together towards a more inclusive Ireland where every resident - human or animal - can move freely and safely. Sign this petition today to urge our policymakers to make this much-needed change!
