There were animals that lived once until they were hunted to their extinction. However, the cycle of endangerment and extinction still continues as we now live in a world where there are people who exploit other living things for things which were not theirs in the first place (furs, rhino's horns, pangolin's scales, etc.). We should do more in our community to make sure that the cycle doesn't repeat itself. Foxes have been hunted and cruelly exploited for their fur for many years now so such would be the significant example. If we make pet foxes legal in California, we would be able to show our compassion towards these animals but not only that, it would also make more room nationwide for rescue shelters to save those affected by hunting/fur farming situations (e.g. SaveAFox Rescue) and thus we will be one step closer a nationwide ban on furs and hunting as we in California will be given the chance to adopt and give them the home they really need and make a significant difference. We, as humans have made a lot of mistakes over the years but now is the time to learn from most of them and make up for the worst ones. It may be hard but that doesn't mean it's not possible. Besides, foxes are my favorite animals. Are you willing to set the example? (Plus, the news video presented shows an example of the way laws can actually hurt these animals, this turned out as quite the heartbreaking result.)

From u/USS_Frontier:

"Yes. ONLY if the person is very well educated in their care, has appropriate outdoor accommodations, is in a rural or semi-rural environment and is able to give the animals the attention and stimulation they need. I would want there to be both licensing and regular inspections if you are going to keep/breed any species of fox.

If you're a breeder OR a rescue, you should be required to do a through background check on potential customers.

I'm using SaveAFox as my benchmark.

Captive-born foxes only.

No capturing of wild foxes so you can look cool for the drooling masses on TikTok or Instagram. I can already see it. "Catch a fox challenge!!"

I'm not totally against the idea of foxes, but with how stupid people are in general when it comes to animals, I don't think it should be open to any Joe Schmo. There needs to be barriers to entry.

Hell, the shelters are overflowing with certain dog breeds because fucking numbskulls didn't do an ounce of research before getting that Siberian Husky or GSD. Fuck you if you keep those dogs in a teeny apartment."
