Make Perugia (PEG) a Ryanair Base for 2026!
Perugia’s San Francesco d'Assisi Airport (PEG) is booming. In 2025, we shattered every previous record, hitting over 620,000 passengers—a clear sign that Umbria is no longer a "hidden gem" but a top-tier European destination. Yet, despite this massive growth, we still lack a permanent flight base.
Why a Base Changes Everything
A based aircraft isn't just a plane parked on a runway; it’s an economic engine. It means:
• Local Jobs: Pilots, cabin crew, engineers, and ground staff living and spending in our community.
• The "First Wave": Early 6:00 AM departures that allow for day trips to major business hubs like London, Paris, and Frankfurt.
• Tourism 365 Days a Year: Stable, year-round connections that prevent our tourism industry from "shutting down" in the winter.
The Time is Now
With the Jubilee 2025 and the Franciscan Centenary approaching, Perugia is the essential gateway to Central Italy. Travelers from across the globe are looking for a direct route to the heart of Italy, and PEG is ready to welcome them.
The Regional Government has already demonstrated its commitment, pledging €4.5M/year in funding and a €10M investment for terminal expansion. The infrastructure is ready, the demand is proven, and the community is waiting.
Our Urgent Demands
To unlock this potential, we call on the authorities to:
1. Abolish the Municipal Tax: Follow the successful "Calabria Model" and remove the €6.50 departure tax that stifles growth and discourages airline investment.
2. Secure the 2026 Base: Ensure that the current negotiations result in a permanent Ryanair aircraft stationed in Perugia.
3. End the Commute: No more traveling to Rome, fighting traffic, or spending hours on trains just to catch a flight. We deserve to fly from our own backyard.
Let’s stop being a transit point and start being a hub. It’s time to give Umbria the wings it deserves.
GO UMBRIA!
