The Issue

Last week, Swindon Borough Council approved planning permission for RIVAN Industries to begin construction of a gas plant at the end of Little Rose Lane in Blunsdon.

Construction traffic will soon be using Front Lane and Little Rose Lane - both single-track rural lanes.

Specifically Little Rose Lane & Front Lane but also the lanes adjoining (some of which could be inaccessible at times) are used daily by:

Horse riders
Cyclists
Walkers
Dog walkers
Carriage drivers
Runners
Local residents
Livery yards and equestrian businesses

There is currently no safe passing space. Vehicles cannot pass safely as it stands. There are no visible safety measures or traffic management provisions in place within the approved planning application that we are aware of, to protect vulnerable road users once heavy construction lorries arrive.

This is a predictable and preventable safety risk.

We are not opposing the development.

We are demanding that safety measures are implemented before construction traffic begins.

We Call on Swindon Borough Council to:

Provide alternative routing arrangements

Introduce a clear and enforceable Construction Traffic Management Plan.

Restrict heavy vehicle access to limited, controlled time windows.

Provide safe passing bays.

Install appropriate speed limits, signage, and warning systems.

Ensure regular road cleaning to remove mud and debris.

Protect continued access for essential rural services (farriers, vets, hay deliveries, tractors).

Vulnerable road users — including children on horseback — cannot safely share a single-track lane with heavy construction traffic.

Safety must come first.

Please sign this petition to ensure Little Rose Lane is made safe before construction begins.
