The Issue

Every day, people are being harassed, defamed, and bullied online—often with devastating consequences. False accusations, threats, and targeted abuse are spreading unchecked across social media, and victims are left with no real recourse. Right now, online bullying isn’t a specific criminal offence in the UK. That needs to change. We’re calling on the UK Government to: Make online bullying and harassment a criminal offence with real consequences for perpetrators. Require social media companies to act swiftly to remove harmful content—especially false accusations and personal attacks. Hold platforms legally accountable when they ignore or delay taking down content that clearly violates basic safety and human dignity. Too often, these platforms act only when something goes viral or a tragedy occurs. That’s not good enough. The Government must ensure that victims are protected, perpetrators are punished, and tech companies do more than offer vague "community guidelines." Sign this petition if you believe online abuse should be treated as seriously as abuse in real life. Let’s make the internet safer—because no one should suffer in silence.
