The issue

As a devoted pet owner and a father, my responsibilities often conflict with the current restrictions at One Mile Beach, Forster, where dogs are only allowed from 5 PM to 9 AM. My beloved dog, who is now older, finds long walks challenging and enjoys wading in the water—a solace that is only possible within restricted hours. I am sure many others share this predicament, struggling to care for our pets under such limitations.

Northern One Mile Beach is a serene stretch of coast that isn’t frequently crowded. Allowing dogs at all hours could provide much-needed flexibility for pet owners who have demanding schedules. Each year, as tourists visit, many hope to bring their pets along for the experience of sun, sand, and sea. Expanding the hours would enable everyone—locals and visitors alike—to enjoy what the community offers more fully.

Other cities like Newcastle, Port Macquarie, and Sydney already have dedicated dog-friendly beaches accessible around the clock. Having this option in our community reflects our progression toward accommodating diverse needs—a pivotal step forward in embedding pet-friendly practices into our societal norms.

We urge the local council to consider this change for Foster Beach. Unlimited access would enhance community wellbeing, foster tourism, and ultimately create a supportive environment for our beloved pets. It’s time we embrace a more inclusive approach, following suit of other major cities and townships.

Sign this petition to support making Foster Beach a 24-hour dog zone, facilitating a harmonious blend of family, pets, and nature for today and future generations.
