Following Mississauga City Council's unanimous passing of a temporary one-year freeze on massive AI data centers, we must act now to ensure our community's long-term environmental safety and power grid stability.

Local residents and youth are deeply concerned about the direct threats these hyper-scale facilities pose to public safety, human well-being, and our local environment. These industrial-scale operations risk damaging our neighborhoods through nonstop noise pollution, extreme water consumption, and heavy energy demands right next to where our children learn and live. While the current 1-year pause is a massive victory, a temporary freeze is not a permanent solution to safeguard our health and ecosystems.

As young people, we are deeply committed to making Mississauga a safer, healthier place to grow up, while playing our part in creating a cleaner, more sustainable world. We, the youth stakeholders of Mississauga, call on the City Council to turn this temporary study pause into a permanent municipal zoning ban on any large-scale data center facility built within close proximity to residential school zones. Let's protect our classrooms, our environment, and our neighborhoods.
