Make Marketing Officers career growth equitable and fair
The Issue
In the dynamic and ever-evolving banking sector, Marketing Officers (MOs) play a pivotal role in driving growth, business and being at the first line of service representing the organisation, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks. Yet, despite their indispensable contributions, these professionals often face an inequitable path to career advancement. This petition seeks to address and rectify the systemic disparities in career growth opportunities for Marketing Officers in the banking industry.
Currently, the minimum eligibility for conversion from a Marketing Officer to a general cadre, which opens up avenues for career progression, is set at an arduous seven years. This waiting period not only stagnates career trajectories but also affects the morale and retention of talented professionals within the sector. We propose that the eligibility requirement be revised from seven years to five years. Reducing this duration will reflect a more equitable recognition of the skills and dedication that MOs bring to their roles.
Moreover, the terms and conditions governing the conversion process are notoriously stringent, often creating insurmountable barriers for aspirants for example, having cleared CAIIB compulsorily to become a generalist officer whereas majority of generalist officers haven't even cleared JAIIB exam is too much to ask for , for many MOs clearing these two exams would require a mammoth effort, while having to take care of their personal as well as professional duties or even having completed all the conditions, there is an uncertainty and lack of transparency of the selection process. We urge a reassessment of these terms to make them more transparent, accessible, and accommodating. This reform should consider the unique skill sets, continuous learning, and achievements of MOs, aligning their progress with the industry standards for career progression requirements.
Additionally, we advocate for the reinstatement of conversion on promotion to Scale 3. This policy, when in place, allowed capable and qualified Marketing Officers to advance their careers smoothly and effectively, directly contributing to organizational growth and stability. Restoring this mechanism would not only motivate current officers but would also attract fresh talent into the sector, reinvigorating the workforce and ensuring a robust succession pipeline.
Statistics from industry reports reveal that banks with equitable promotion policies see a significant increase in employee satisfaction, retention, and ultimately, performance. It is only fair that Marketing Officers, whose roles are crucial yet frequently undervalued, are given the same access to advancement opportunities as their peers.
We believe that these changes will create a more just and merit-based promotion ecosystem within the banking industry, thereby optimizing the contributions of Marketing Officers. Your support in this cause can catalyze meaningful policy changes that benefit not only these officers but also the institutions they help to thrive.
