My son Oscar, who is due to turn six in January, has cystic fibrosis. He was scheduled to start a new treatment with modular drugs that have been proven highly effective for people with his condition.

However, these life-changing and potentially life-lengthening drugs are at risk of being pulled from the NHS by December due to their high cost.

This isn't just about Oscar. There are approximately 10,400 people in the UK living with cystic fibrosis (source: Cystic Fibrosis Trust). These individuals could benefit immensely from these modular drugs but may not be able to access them because of financial constraints imposed by our healthcare system.

We understand that healthcare resources are finite and decisions must be made about how best to allocate them. However, we believe that denying access to a treatment that could significantly improve and extend lives based on cost alone is unjust.

We urge Vertex, NICE, the NHS, and relevant decision-makers to reconsider this stance. Please ensure these effective modular drugs remain accessible for all those living with cystic fibrosis who need them - including my son Oscar.
