As a visually impaired woman, going out to eat is rarely the relaxing experience it should be. Every time I sit down at a restaurant, I’m faced with a frustrating challenge: I can’t read the menu. The print is just too small.

What should take a few minutes turns into a slow, uncomfortable process where I’m forced to rely on others to read for me or guess what I might want. It strips away my independence, something no one should have to give up just  to order a meal.

Florida technically recognizes that large print materials should be available upon request. But in reality, most restaurants don’t offer them, and many aren’t even aware that this is expected.

That’s why I’m calling on Florida lawmakers to take action and make large print menus mandatory in restaurants across the state. Large print menus are simple to produce, inexpensive, and make dining accessible for thousands of Floridians with low vision (and even those who don't have visual impairments, but prefer a bigger size).
