Should crossing Branch Hill Guinea feel like taking a perilous risk?

Crossing this horribly-designed road always feels like I am taking a risk. As a resident near this area, I’ve seen firsthand how the current road design endangers pedestrians. We need to do something to improve pedestrian safety.

We need a crosswalk.

It is a simple ask that does not have to cost much, but is a very immediate need that will bring our community one step closer to a true safe street. I strongly urge local officials to consider this. A crosswalk can make a meaningful difference with a low cost and an immediate impact.

As I cross this wide, 4-lane, sea of fast and often speeding cars, I have to run across, as I have done with my 2-year-old brother, hoping that cars slow down at least a bit, contrary to what the road design calls for.

We NEED a crosswalk.

Ideally, the project should have:

-One or more crosswalks to demarcate an interface zone between cars and pedestrians
-Curb bump-outs¹ to slow speeds and serve as a pedestrian waiting zone
-Signage that further indicates this crossing

There are several ways we can make this happen:

An option could be an affordable tactical urbanism² project, sanctioned by local government, as done successfully in many places including Fayetteville, Arkansas³. Tactical urbanism is proven to work, and can vary in permanence.

Clermont County can also install the crosswalk, according to their MUTCD rulebook. This option is not likely to include certain aspects of the ideal crosswalk, such as curb bump-outs.

Please support this by signing this petition to make Branch Hill Guinea safer for everyone. Anyone who has crossed this road and knows the gravity of this is welcome to sign.
