It is LEGAL to consume dog and cat meat in Canada.

If properly sourced or killed and gutted in front of federal inspectors, a restaurant could substitute dog or cat meat without facing any criminal charges or health violations. There are also no legal consequences if a pet owner kills and eats their dog or cat. It sounds horrific and difficult to believe, but it's true.

My name is James Tsai and I’m the founder of Arf Arf Bark Bark Rescue, a Canadian registered nonprofit. In December 2018, I met with MP Ken Hardie and he pledged to work with the Minister of Justice and Minister of Agriculture on this important matter.

This is not about political perspectives. This is about speaking together as one voice for our beloved dogs and cats, reflecting the values of respect towards animals and most importantly, closing the loopholes that allow for the lawful consumption of innocent dogs and cats.

Last year, the US became the first G20 country to criminalize the slaughter of dogs and cats for human consumption with the signing of the Dog and Cat Meat Trade Prohibition act. Now it's our turn to follow the lead.

The Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation in Los Angeles created, lobbied for and supported this historic bill. The foundation’s board chair, Barbara Gitlitz, MD and key project leader of the Dog and Cat Meat Trade Prohibition act, Mr. Vincent Sena are supporting our movement.

Add your signature and share today to urge the Government of Canada to make it a federal offense to eat dog and cat meat. This petition will be delivered to the Honorable Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Honorable Ken Hardie, Member of Parliament of Canada.
