The Issue

We are Killed Women, a network of bereaved families who have lost our daughters, mothers, aunts, sisters and loved ones to violence against women and girls.

THIS PETITION CALLS ON THE GOVERNMENT TO:

Urgently and Explicitly include Black, Minoritised and Migrant women in the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Strategy and address their needs to urgently tackle the epidemic of disproportionate domestic homicide of BMM women.

It is completely unacceptable that Black, minoritised and migrant women are still not explicitly included in the Government’s long-overdue Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Strategy.

This exclusion costs lives.

Our report ‘Invisible Women’ with Southall Black Sisters (SBS) shows the scale of the failure:

One in four women killed by domestic homicide between 2020–2024 were Black, minoritised or migrant, nearly 50% higher than the general population.

In London, the injustice is even clearer: in 2023, 62% of femicide victims were Black women, despite Black women making up only around 14% of the city’s female population.

These women were not protected. Many asked for help and were ignored.
This is not accidental, it reflects systemic racism, misogyny, and institutional failure, including in policing and public services, as confirmed by the Casey Review.

A Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) strategy that excludes the women most at risk is not fit for purpose!

Our loved ones should still be here.
