Winters have approached and northern India is becoming colder day by day. For caregivers neither summers are good nor winters. Both are bad because both create havoc on their furry friends. In summers the dogs roam thirsty in scorching heat. The water bowls which are kept by the caregivers are often broken or removed by other residents who do not like dogs. People don't even let them sit under their cars which is the favourite place for dogs which gives them protection against scorching heat.

Today morning a resident of Mumbai with the guard has beaten a small pup to death just because he used to sit under his car. An FIR has been lodged against the perpetrators. Imagine this pup didn't even bite anybody. He was just taking shelter under a car. Is that such a big crime? Kindly go on the following link to read about the report in detail:

The life of the caregivers and the stray dogs is not easy in India. In winters the dogs have to sit on the cemented floors which are freezing cold especially during night. Hence, the caregivers put jute sacks for them (pic in the post). This keeps them warm. But just like water bowls the jute sacks also disappear the other day.

Shanti (M- 91 8929307936) a caregiver of Delhi had purchased sacks for her furry friends and placed them both in the residential colony as well as in the market area where around 10 dogs stay.  The dogs residing in market area are in the most hopeless situation because their caregivers do not stay around them. This is the same for all dogs who reside in non residential areas. Shanti and a group of like-minded people feed the dogs of the market once a day everyday. They purchased sack beddings which cost them almost rupees hundred per sack but the very next day the sacks were gone.

Some were removed by the shopkeepers who don't like dogs and few by the sweepers. According to sweepers the sacks are a hindrance to cleanliness. They like dogs and don't want to remove their sacks but fear thar their officers may object to it and they might lose their job because of it.

It's time the Municipal Corporation officers especially those who are incharge of cleanliness drive ensure that their sweepers are not scolded for not removing water pots and sacks kept by the caregivers for the stray dogs.

Removing sacks and breaking water pots is both inhuman and cruel. It not only makes a  hole in the pocket of the caregivers because water bowls and sacks do not come for free. And it also breaks their hearts because they just can't see their furry friends die of thirst during hot summers and die shivering in the cold winter nights.

SEVA in hindi means service. Every religion advocates service and service is to be done selflessly. Caregivers are selflessly serving their four legged friends but each day they go out to perform their SEVA (service) they either find the water pots missing, sacks gone, dogs injured due to human cruelty or sometimes face a crowd of people opposing them to feed dogs.

What kind of service is this? It's more like a war for the caregiver because each day the caregiver finds a new challenge which he has to boldly face and fight against.
