The Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha Anubhav Mohanty has shown his displeasure on the existing animal welfare laws of India. In his letter dated 23rd June 2020 to the Union Minister of Animal Husbandry, Dairing and Fisheries Giriraj Singh he has made an appeal to bring amendment in the prevention of cruelty to animals act 1960. He has raised his concern for an unreasonably low penalties which is a maximum of Rs. 50 which needs to be increased  and to recognise animal cruelty as a cognizable offence by default.

The young and dynamic member of parliament has also moved the Supreme Court seeking protection of wild animals who are being killed / poached in diffrent states of India after being declared vermin. And asked for action against the practice of encouraging and rewarding wild animals killing in India.
