While India is under complete lockdown since Sunday 22nd March 2020, cruelty against stray dogs still continues.

Although people have been requested to stay indoors but they are still finding time to go outdoors to hit the dogs living in their neighbourhood.

The following are some of the incidents which took place in the last 6 days in India:

1.) On 24th March a dog was brutally atracked and slashed  by a knife. The following message got viral on social media.

"Hi
Need help in new friends colony maharani Bagh
Dog stabbed last night
Pls help the reporter +91 98183 12126"

2.) On 27th March 2020 a woman in Bengaluru has been seen hitting a dog with airgun. The lady didn't stop there. She even mishandeled with the caregiver. The caregiver was just trying to feed the dog and the woman had objections on her feeding. To watch the video kindly go to the link below:

3.)  On 25th March a pet owner very ruthlessly abandons his dog in front of an animal shelter. And just before leaving the dog he kicks him hard. Only a monster could do this.

Well! This is the impact of coronavirus. Pet owners in India have started abandoning their pets. There were already plenty of stray dogs in India, now they have abandoned dogs to give them company. If only the state governments had bust the myth of animals spreading Corona then probably this new problem of abandonment could have been easily avoided.

If only the state governments in India including Delhi had made public awareness about animals that they do not spread Corona virus then probably the present scenario of dog abandonment could have been easily avouded.

Also what the govt is not forseeing is a bigger epidemic which will be soon caused due to dead carcasses of community animals especially those of dogs, cows and cats. They are land animals and they entirely depend on humans for their food and water especially in the cities.

The RWAs can urge their colony members to drop at least one piece of bread / chappati in a box or a bag placed near the market area where people come to buy essential supplies can grocery, milk, medicine etc.

And at night a guard or an individual may be entrusted to feed the dogs, cats and cows. The cows can nowadays be seen sitting hungry and thirsty near the garbage bins. Water pots should also be put so that the animals for not die of thirst.

Just by a littleittle public awareness the state govts can easily tackle this very grave issue that too without themselves getting involved in it. Through public participation the hungry animals can be easily fed.

Request all State govts to make an appeal to their public to share their food with the hungry dogs, cats and cows living in their surroundings. And for that the RWAs of the colonies may chalk out a plan which will ensure  social distancing and at the same time fill the stomachs of the hungry animals.
