Since the last update, the Ministry of Transportation has confirmed that it is reviewing changes directly on Highway 6, including lane configuration and passing behaviour. In particular, the Ministry has stated it is reviewing the removal of the southbound passing lane and the addition of left-turn lanes — often referred to as lane clarity.
That is a step in the right direction. It matters that Highway 6 itself is now being addressed.
At the same time, there are still important gaps.
As of today, no timelines have been provided for when lane changes would be implemented, and those changes are dependent on weather conditions. In addition, several interim safety measures requested by the community — including speed reduction, speed feedback signage, enhanced lighting, and other readily available tools — have not yet been addressed.
The Ministry has also stated that their collision review indicates most drivers are stopping on the east–west roads. That finding reinforces what many in the community have been saying: the core safety risks at this intersection are speed, visibility, passing behaviour, and limited decision-making time on a high-speed highway — risks that remain present today.
This petition has always been about what can be done now to reduce risk while longer-term changes are pending. Clear timelines, accountability, and interim measures that actively slow traffic and improve visibility are what turn discussion into real safety.

Public attention is what moved this forward. It’s also what will ensure that progress on paper becomes safety on the road.
