Since launching this petition, the conversation has moved — and that’s because thousands of you have spoken up.

The Wellington Advertiser has now published two articles documenting both the ongoing danger at Hwy 6 & Wellington Road 22 and the Province's response:

• Province evaluating Highway 6 safety fixes (Jan 13, 2026)

The Ministry of Transportation has confirmed that a permanent redesign (a roundabout) is planned, with construction anticipated in spring 2026. They have also indicated that changes on Highway 6 itself are under review, including reviewing passing lanes, turning movements, and operating speeds.

That matters.

But here’s what’s still missing.

The Ministry’s own collision review indicates that most drivers are stopping on the east–west roads. This suggests the core issue is not simply signage compliance, but speed, visibility, and decision-making time on a high-speed highway.

Those same risks were identified during the Highway 6 and Wellington Road 22 environmental review, which was open for public comment for 30 days in late 2023 and finalized in January 2024. That process identified safety concerns related to speed, limited sightlines, and high-severity turning conflicts on Highway 6.

The community is simply asking that those findings be acted on now — through interim measures like speed reduction, speed feedback, lane clarity, lighting, and other readily available tools — while permanent construction remains pending.

Some interim steps, like lane clarity, are being discussed, but they are weather-dependent and not yet in place. Progress on paper only becomes a real win when there are clear timelines, accountability, and safety measures that reduce risk now, especially while families are travelling this route every day.
