Make Havant & Leigh Park Safer at Night – Better Lighting, CCTV & Community Patrols

The Issue

Our community deserves to feel safe.

Too many residents in Havant and Leigh Park — especially women, young people, and vulnerable people — are afraid to walk home at night. Poor street lighting, limited CCTV, and a lack of visible policing have left people at risk of harassment, intimidation, and crime.

We all know the areas that feel unsafe: dark alleyways, underpasses, Havant bus station, Leigh Park centre, and local estates where drug dealing and antisocial behaviour go unchecked. People tell me every day that they feel abandoned — they want to feel safe in their own town again.

This isn’t just about crime statistics. It’s about mothers worrying for their daughters, young people scared to get the bus home, and elderly residents who don’t go out after dark. No one in Havant should feel trapped indoors because the streets don’t feel safe.

That’s why we are calling on Havant Borough Council and Hampshire Constabulary to take urgent action:

Our demands are simple but vital:

Install brighter street lighting in dark hotspots across Havant and Leigh Park.
Expand CCTV coverage in crime-prone areas, including town centres, bus stations, and car parks.
Increase evening patrols by neighbourhood police officers to deter gangs and antisocial behaviour.
Introduce a Safe Place Scheme, where local shops, community centres, and libraries provide safe havens for anyone who feels threatened.

This isn’t about politics — it’s about protecting local people. Havant has one of the highest levels of deprivation in Hampshire, and residents deserve the same safety and security as anywhere else in Britain.

Every resident has the right to feel safe in their community. With your support, we can show the council and police that the people of Havant and Leigh Park demand real action  not just words.

Sign this petition today and stand with us in making Havant & Leigh Park safe for everyone.
