We, the members of the School of Architecture and Design at Wentworth Institute of
Technology, petition the university to reinstate a spring commencement for undergraduates.

Students should not have to wait four additional months for a ceremony they have earned.  With the combination of the two commencements into one during the summer, many inconveniences are created, especially for out-of-state and international students. In addition to hefty flight, hotel, and travel costs, many international students will also be unable to attend due to issues with visas. Student's working professional jobs will also have to take time off work that may or may not be granted and be sacrificing pay either way. 

Our community has put countless hours and created a strong community amongst each other. Every student deserves access to this graduation and having it at the end of Spring following finals, as previously done for countless years before, eliminates the issues outlined above. Even if able to attend, students deserve to graduate together and celebrate each other's successes. 

We request that Wentworth Institute of Technology provide the students of the School of
Architecture and Design a spring commencement or compensate for the extra costs (i.e. flights,
housing, dining) that traveling back to campus for a summer commencement generates.
