Make 'global' petitions on change.org 'global' and scrap the 3 email per week limit!
The Issue
I created a petition on change.org with currently just over 400 signatures to fix Easter to its earliest possible date of 22nd March, with the direct link here:
https://www.change.org/p/fix-easter-to-march-22nd-earliest-date-in-2043-2054-or-2065-before-we-die!
My original intention was to reach a global audience in the hope of reaching supporters from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the USA, the Republic of Ireland, and South Africa. Despite selecting change.org's 'Global' scope, however after downloading my CSV files and spreadsheets in June 2026 three months into the campaign, I was frustrated, devastated and heartbroken to find that over 90% of my supporters were based solely the UK, which unfortunately limited the potential impact of my parallel campaign which is still extremely important to me.
My unfortunate experience highlights a significant limitation, flaw and misrepresentation in change.org's system, where the so-called 'Global' reach is misleading and not effectively connecting campaigns with a truly international audience. As a neurodivergent individual who 'takes things literally' and as it stands, the platform's functionality hampers the efforts of those seeking to make a worldwide impact, driving them into a narrow corridor of localised support and trapping UK users into the infamous 'UK echo chamber'!
For change.org to truly uphold its vision of empowering people everywhere to create the change they want to see, it is critical to offer a more genuine global reach for its petitions. By ensuring petitions labeled as 'Global' are genuinely circulated across continents, change.org can become a more effective tool for advocates and activists seeking to drive large-scale change especially when its a global change that is needed, like fixing the date of Easter which is what my related petition is about.
To achieve this, change.org should consider implementing advanced targeting algorithms that factor in language preferences, demographics, and regional interests more effectively. They could also explore partnerships with local NGOs and advocacy groups worldwide to boost international awareness and support for each campaign, depending on its nature and audience.
Moreover, it's essential for change.org to improve its communication strategy with petition creators, offering clear guidance and analytics on how their petitions are performing internationally and providing tools to optimise this reach.
Together, these strategies will enhance the platform's capabilities, ensuring it 'rightfully' lives up to its global claims! Signing this campaign calls on change.org to commit to these improvements, empowering users to harness the platform's full potential to make lasting, worldwide impacts.
Let's make global petitions truly global and please sign this petition to drive change.org, a flawed petition platform, towards this necessary transformation and scrap its unnecessary and unfair three-emails-per-week rule with unlimited posting of updates whenever a campaign gets stuck on a certain number of signatures!
Change.org also needs to formally acknowledge intermediate milestones like the 250, 300 and 400 signatures milestones, rather than automatically tagging 500 next goal in the petition's dashboard overview once a user reaches 200 signatures.
The scope of this petition is set to 'National' and is deliberately targeting other UK change.org campaigners (this is where I actually want a 100% British audience) who wish to amass signatures from across the world and this petition will only collect UK signatures for a very important reason!
I am calling on other frustrated Brits to sign this campaign and abolish the UK trap algorithm!
