ALERT: Foxland Harbor Marina everyday proves the truth in the old saying—watch what they do, not what they say.
WHAT THEY SAY—When last we heard from them, marina developers issued a teary, albeit unsigned, Valentine’s Day statement that “it is imprudent to continue the project in its present form. Ultimately, we could not achieve a workable plan for the benefit of the gracious and growing community of Gallatin.”
WHAT THEY DO—Then, we noticed this forlorn sign at the project site’s public boat launch. Despite the dewy-eyed press statements, the sign wasn’t going away. So, we asked the US Army Corps of Engineers about it—twice. Then this morning, this landed in our inbox from an official in the Army Corps’ Nashville District office:
Foxland Harbor has formally requested another 30-day extension to finalize their decision regarding the lease agreement. In the interim, the sign will remain in place until the official termination of the lease. We will be sure to keep you apprised of all progress.
An extension? ANOTHER extension? For what?
We learned last year that marina shape-shifters were fond of telling folks one thing in public meetings, and then slamming their project ahead against the protests of Douglas Bend, Foxland, and Fairvue neighbors, Meanwhile, Gallatin’s powers that be told everyone the Army Corps lease didn’t matter to the shape of the marina project. But today, for some reason, look who’s extending their lease—two months after they said their project was over.
This is why we’ve continued to follow their trail. And why we’re checking their receipts.
Yesterday, we sent new FOIA requests to the Army Corps to find out exactly what’s going on. We’ll share the results as soon as we have them.
FOHL isn’t going away. Neither should you.
