Make First Aid Training Mandatory for High School Students Every Two Years

Make First Aid Training Mandatory for High School Students Every Two Years
The Issue
Witnessing a knife attack and providing first aid and CPR to a victim who, regrettably, did not survive, was a harrowing event in my life. This heartbreaking incident led me to start campaigning against knife crime in our town, with a primary focus on educating and raising awareness among young people. While speaking to a number of these young people, we realized that if a knife attack happened in a public place like a park—an all too possible scenario—it would likely be up to the youth to call emergency services and attempt first aid.
Given this stark reality, I am urging for mandatory first aid training every two years for all high school students. This move will not only equip them with the knowledge and skills that can protect them but also have a lasting impact on community safety and readiness. Studies show that well-implemented, school-based first aid training can significantly increase students' knowledge, confidence, and willingness to act in emergency situations. This isn't just about practical knowledge—it's about instilling a mindset of community-oriented action and responsible citizenship in our youth.
Please, join us in ensuring our youth are well-prepared for emergencies and to potentially save a life. Sign the petition and let's rally for mandatory first aid education in high schools. Together, we can make our community a safer place.
