The tragic loss of our beloved cat, who was fatally attacked in the garden of an aggressive dog, has shed light on a legal imbalance that needs urgent rectification. Our family cat fell prey to this animal, and to our shock and disappointment, the authorities expressed their inability to take any action. Due to current legislation, cats are not provided with the same protection that dogs are awarded under these circumstances. 

This legal disparity not only diminishes the value we place on these beloved companions, but it also leaves them vulnerable to harm and neglect, without any chance of justice. 

We propose legislation that allows cats the same protection as dogs extending to them the same legal safeguards that canine pets currently enjoy. By doing this, we can ensure that our beloved pets are not only protected but are treated with the same respect and importance that all companions should be. 
Recent reported cases show that dogs who initially attack cats have gone on to attack a human such as a child.
