The Issue

Speak To Me welcomes the Government's plan to remove time restrictions on disabled bus passes in England from April 2027. Now include the support people need to travel.

A free bus pass does not make a journey free if a disabled person must pay for their essential companion's ticket. This extra cost can limit access to work, education, healthcare and social life.

We call on the Government to fund and guarantee free travel for one essential carer or companion accompanying a disabled passholder who needs support, whenever their pass is valid. Introduce an equivalent entitlement on trains in England.

The entitlement should follow the disabled person, allowing a paid support worker, unpaid carer, friend or relative to accompany them. Eligibility should be consistent, with a simple, accessible application process designed with disabled people.

Please sign and share. Nobody should face an extra fare because they need support to travel.

Nothing about us without us.
