Make councils or companies that issue incorrect PCNs liable for compensation.

The Issue

We've all been there at some point. Half of us, myself and my friends included, have received incorrect parking charge notices or penalty charge notices. Aside from the personal expense and stress for individuals, many of us are business owners, and these fines can accumulate to be a significant drain on our resources.

We fearlessly appeal against these unjust notices, but often find our efforts in vain. From my experience and that of others around me, the initial appeal is typically declined. The prospects of moving forward with a subsequent appeal, potentially incurring further costs, is foreboding. Yet, it frequently results in the cancellation of the penalty.

The amount of time lost in dealing with these unjust penalties, the stress of dealing with incorrect charges, and the anxiety caused by the threat of recurring unfair charges - can be overwhelming. Litigating such matters isn't just time-consuming, but also takes an emotional toll that is largely unaccounted for.

According to a UK Parliamentary report (2020-22), 20% of parking tickets are disputed each year, with over half of those appeals proving successful. This statistic suggests that there are a considerable number of incorrect penalties being issued to motorists.

We, the undersigned, call upon the legislative bodies to hold councils and companies financially accountable for handing out erroneous parking fines. They should be made liable for compensation and other resulting costs borne by innocent motorists wrongfully served these notices. It's time to enact change before more individuals and small businesses suffer needlessly.

Let us come together to hold these authorities accountable for their carelessness. Please sign this petition today.
