In response to this heartbreaking event, we respectfully petition the state of New Jersey and the United States to officially recognize October 3 of every year as "Companion Animal Cruelty Awareness Day." This day would serve as a solemn remembrance of the lives of companion animals lost to cruelty and a support for the grieving families left in their wake. More importantly, it would act as a catalyst for prevention through education and accountability.

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), millions of dogs and cats suffer from abuse and neglect every year. These animals, much like Ruby, deserve loving homes and lives free from fear. Establishing October 3rd as a day of awareness would not only honor these lives but also empower communities to advocate for stronger animal protection laws and policies.
