Hello Advocates!

You signed the petition for the Colorado CARE Act. That decision mattered - 731 of you have put your name on this fight, and that number is now part of how I make the case to the Colorado Commission on Medicaid.

Today I'm asking something different.

The Colorado Commission on Medicaid is writing its final report to the General Assembly. Deadline: December 11, 2026. Their recommendations will shape how Colorado funds and structures caregiver support for years - possibly decades.

Here is the problem: they are making those recommendations without data that only caregivers can provide.

Specifically, they don't have Colorado-specific data on household-level caregiving costs, arrangement fragility, or what actually happens to a family's finances when a caregiving arrangement fails. I've spent months building the instrument to collect it.

The Caring Costs Survey launches September 11.

It takes 8 minutes. It's anonymous. And your answers will be part of the evidence base I bring to the Commission before December 11.
Here is why your response matters beyond Colorado: the data this survey generates will inform not just the Colorado Commission's report - but a model for how states across the U.S. measure the true cost of caregiver policy decisions. What we build here, done right, travels. Canada has already documented $97 billion in annual unpaid caregiving labor. The measurement gap is not a Colorado problem. It's a human infrastructure problem. Colorado is where we start closing it.

What I'm asking you to do right now - before September 11:

Stay subscribed to this petition. The survey link will come through this channel.
Share the petition with one person who is currently caregiving - paid or unpaid, stable or fraying. Every additional signer before September 30 is evidence a Colorado Senate sponsor can point to when they commit to the CARE Act.

If you can, promote the petition. Ten people promoting this petition have already driven 80% of every signature it has received. Even $3 expands this into networks I cannot reach alone.

Senator Judy Amabile, Chair of the Colorado Medicaid Commission, is a named recipient of this petition. Senator Kyle Mullica, Chair of Senate Health and Human Services, is a named recipient. Senator Michael Bennet, who leads the bipartisan federal Assisting Caregivers Today Caucus, is a named recipient. Decision makers are watching. Every signature and every survey response is a data point they see.

The Colorado CARE Act is at v5.5 - the strongest version of the bill to date, with dual legal clearance from two independent attorneys. The infrastructure is built. The survey is ready to launch. The Commission window is open.
