Make Chemical Packaging Clearly Distinguishable from Drinking Water

Make Chemical Packaging Clearly Distinguishable from Drinking Water
The Issue

Recently, I came across a heartbreaking case of a 2.5-year-old child who accidentally drank paint thinner, mistaking it for water. The packaging was so similar to a regular water bottle that the child could not distinguish the danger.
She was rushed to the hospital and has been battling severe complications ever since, including multiple organ dysfunction. She is currently in the NICU and is now facing critical brain-related issues. She is still not out of danger and continues to fight for her life.
This tragic incident highlights a serious and preventable safety issue: many hazardous chemicals such as thinner, turpentine, and similar substances are packaged in containers that closely resemble everyday drinkable liquids. For young children, who cannot read or recognize danger symbols, this creates a deadly risk.
No family should have to experience such preventable suffering. A simple change in packaging design and stricter safety regulations could help ensure that toxic substances are clearly distinguishable from water or other consumable liquids.
We urgently need action to mandate child-safe, clearly identifiable packaging for all hazardous chemical substances to prevent such tragedies in the future.
