Make Cheltenham Roads Safer

The Issue

Many Cheltenham roads, like the roads in most communities, are unsafe due to speeding and reckless driving. Too many streets with speed limits set at 25 or 35 miles per hour have drivers driving double the speed or more. This is dangerous for children who are playing in their yards, riding bikes, or even walking to school. It is no safer for adults to drive, walk, or just enjoy their yards. Every year, there are accidents on our roads caused by speeding drivers, leaving residents injured or worse.

Oak Lane Road is a wide road with a posted speed limit of 35 MPH. It has a stretch of over 1/2 a mile that has 2 traffic lanes and two full-sized parking lanes creating a road that appears to be 4 lanes wide. There are no stoplights or stop signs for any of the 6 intersections between New Second St and Ashbourne Rd.

When residents approach the Township asking for stop signs here, they are told this is a state road, we cannot do anything. Oak Land Rd is a state road just as is Ashbourne Rd and I have worked to have 2 stop signs placed on Ashbourne. It can be done!

We call upon the Township to work with the state and add 2 stop signs on this 1/2 mile stretch of Oak Lane. It can be done and the sooner the better before somebody is hurt or worse!
