Immigration is the question of the day everywhere in the world. The globalized economy, free trade measures, global warming, and the foreign policies of wealthier powers exploiting poorer nations—these factors have combined to create one of the most massive relocations of humanity across national borders in all of world history. The State of California is a historic place of refuge for immigrants from all over the world and home to many growing immigrant communities.

We are proud of our diverse, international community and we have shown through action that we are prepared to defend ourselves and each other. Whether as part of the walkouts in early Spring at Cerritos College in response to Trump's threatened ICE raids, or in the historic mobilizations across Los Angeles and Paramount that defeated ICE and the National Guards attempts at mass deportations. Many students at Cerritos College have been able to participate in some way in this growing national movement against Donald Trump’s fascist dictatorship.

Our campus can be important to building the kind of actions that can make clear we stand with immigrants, refugees and asylum-seekers, and against Trump’s attacks on immigrants, both in our communities and at the border; that we stand firmly against Trump’s racist border wall, and proudly uphold the promise of freedom written on the Statue of Liberty. Defending these principles will require the active defense of immigrants on and off the campus to breathe life into those principles.

Therefore, we the undersigned pledge to make Cerritos College a genuine sanctuary campus for all immigrants:

1. Mobilize and take action to stop I.C.E. terror: defend our friends, family, neighbors, classmates, and co-workers against I.C.E. raids and deportations. Build student, worker, community defense guards to stop ICE.
2.  Demand that Cerritos College reassert their commitment to being a sanctuary for immigrants and not turning over information or cooperating in any way with ICE. Reasserting this commitment is necessary especially in light of the UC System’s handing over student information to Trump as part of the crackdown on student protest for Palestine.
3. Demand that all students and staff be alerted to any ICE presence on or near our campus.
4. Maintain Cerritos College as a Hispanic Serving Institution. Defeat any attempt by Donald Trump to attack any services or programs that effect our campuses Latina/o and immigrant students.
